2009 ended with a bang – AHRMA celebrated several accomplishments such as being awarded the Pinnacle Award and achieving Super Mega status. Our 2009 President, Ramona Rohrer, led with determination and enthusiasm as her team did a superb job of reaching new heights. Congratulations to the 2009 Executive Committee for their outstanding leadership and dedicated service! The 2010 Executive Committee is already hard at work building upon the solid foundation that has been passed on to us. Thank you to the executive committee for their commitment to lead this organization.
In keeping with tradition the president selects a theme for the year. As I considered what theme I would choose, two things kept coming to me. First in July 2010 AHRMA will celebrate its 60th Anniversary and any good anniversary celebration includes a recollection of the past and a party to celebrate the present milestone. Second I thought of the future – the future of the HR profession, the future of AHRMA and the future of members.
In 2010, as we celebrate 60 years, our theme is:
Celebrating the Past, Embracing the Present, Leveraging the Future
As we celebrate the past and embrace the present look forward to a celebration of AHRMA’s 60th year culminating with a special event.
In leveraging the future, the 2010 Executive Committee has taken intentional steps to set goals for the year. In November, six Executive Committee members attended the SHRM Leadership Conference to engage with other chapter leaders and learn SHRM’s goals and objectives. Then in December, the Executive Committee and volunteers participated in the annual Strategic Planning workshop. The goal of the strategic planning workshop is to review AHRMA’s present state, identify the external and internal factors that influence the association and to continue to define the chapter’s strategic goals. Presently each committee is hard at work setting goals for the year.
I encourage each of you to do the same – celebrate the path you took to get where you are now, enjoy where you are at this time and leverage your future by taking intentional steps to help you achieve new goals. Here are some of the ways AHRMA can help you reach your career goals:
- Gain new experience by volunteering on one of AHRMA’s committees
- Sharpen your presentation skills by facilitating an AHRMA program
- Become certified – register for the certification study group
- Stay informed by attending monthly educational programs and the annual conference
- Take advantage of networking opportunities to meet colleagues and to build your network
- Enhance your leadership skills in the Stepping Stones to Enhanced Leadership Development Program
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President. I will work diligently to represent you well and to further the strong legacy of this fine association. I look forward to seeing you throughout the year.
Diontha Fancher
2010 President
