SKATING FORWARD TOWARD HEALTHCARE REFORM

Will we earn a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal?  No triple axel or death spiral dramatics needed, for timing, practice and stamina will tell the tale.  Join AHRMA’s expert panel as they provide the update on the current direction of Healthcare reform.  This two-hour discussion will provide a candid and lively discussion of the impact on medical providers, the current employer based benefit programs and the individual consumers.   

 Attending this session will help all HR Professionals be better prepared for both the upcoming business world changes, and to be informed consumers who can knowledgeably voice their personal preferences to their legislators. 

 Our TEAM USA Panel will cover the technical elements and program components of Healthcare reform today from all perspectives, while judging the skills, transitions, composition and timing of proposed changes.

  • Where we’ve been and what’s new today? How hot is D.C?  Proposed changes and the new “Bipartisan” efforts.
  • A Medical Providers Point of View: Challenges, Compensation, Medicare, Tort and R & D. What are the biggest challenges under the current system?
  • Healthcare Insurance Companies:  Is it their fault? Feasible or affordable?
  • Employers Representative will be explaining the impact to employers without the fancy footwork!

Presenters Bio’s 

Judy Moss, RHU, Principal, McQueary Henry Bowles Troy, LLP

Judy has twenty three years of experience as an employee benefits broker/consultant specializing in the design and management of both fully insured and partially self-funded accounts.

Prior to becoming a Principal at MHBT she held Senior and Principal positions with two of Austin’s largest broker / consulting firms.  She is Past President of the Austin Chapter of the National Association of Health Underwriters and recipient their prestigious Hutzler Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.

 In addition to being an active member of the National Association of HealthUnderwriters Judy is also a member of the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers and frequently speaks on wellness and consumer directed healthcare, serving on the Program Committee of the Austin Human Resource Management Association for six years.  Judy received her RHU designation from the American College in 1998.      

 Chris Cronn

Chris is Vice President of State Government Affairs for UnitedHealth Group where he focuses on legislative, executive and state agency affairs in Texas.  Capitalizing on his experience in the Office of the Governor, he provides council and guidance to business executives to advance interests in the legislative, regulatory and procurement process before various government agencies. 

Chris is a former Deputy Legislative Director, House Liaison and Advisor in the Texas governor’s office.  During that time, he oversaw the consideration and negotiation of more than 6,000 bills and amendments during the legislative session and advised on Governor Perry’s public policy agenda, including issues related to health care and other budget and policy issues.

In 2007, Chris served as campaign manager and spokesman to lead the passage of state Proposition 15, a $3 Billion cancer initiative.  As treasure of “Yes on 15” a Political Action Committee, he raised over $1.5 Million including in-kind donations. He worked closely with the Lance Armstrong Foundation, American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Before joining the governor’s office, he was Legislative Director for Texas State Representative Glenda Dawson where he wrote 78th Legislature Interim Report on Corneal Tissue Consent, which led to the Glenda Dawson Donate Life – Texas Registry where Texans can record to be an organ, tissue and eye donor.

Chris is a graduate of the University of Texas, where he was Captain of the UT Rugby Team and member of a Select US Rugby Collegiate team that toured in South Africa. He currently voluntarily coaches the UT Rugby side.

Becky Parker

Becky Parker is a Senior Account Manager at McQueary Henry Bowles Troy, LLP (MHBT), central Texas’ largest privately-held employee benefits specialization group.  She has worked as an employee benefits advisor since 1992 and manages MHBT’s small group market segment.  Becky is an active member of the Austin Association of Health Underwriters where she was president in 2003 and received their highest honor, the Shirley Hutzler award, in 2004.  Becky has also served on the Texas Association of Health Underwriters board as their liaison to the Texas Department of Insurance.  She was honored by the National Association of Health Underwriters in 2003 with the State Legislative Achievement Award for her legislative advocacy.

Thomas J. Bond

Thomas J. Bond is a shareholder with Greenberg Traurig LLP in Austin where he practices insurance and regulatory law in Texas and on a national basis. His clients include insurance holding companies, life and property and liability companies, trade associations, reinsurers, health maintenance organizations, title underwriters and agencies, corporate insurance agencies, commercial insured and the insurance regulators of other states. He has managed a number of insurance industry strategic initiatives at the Texas Legislature in the area of workers compensation, health insurance and managed care, credit and specialty lines coverage, broking and regulated transactions and insurance regulation and taxation.

Mr. Bond has been involved in the rehabilitation and liquidation of troubled companies, both hostile and negotiated acquisitions and mergers, numerous regulatory approval projects, investment decisions and the design and approval of new coverage’s. He represents clients in connection with regulatory approvals and acquisitions in a number of states. He acted as outside counsel to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in its recent successful effort to establish an interstate compact for life and annuity contract filings and approval.

A former Texas Commissioner of Insurance (1982-1985), he is a frequent speaker on public policy topics related to insurance, healthcare and legislative policy making and a strategic advisor to both publicly and privately held insurance enterprises. Mr. Bond is a member of the State Bars of Texas and Colorado and the American Bar Association. He is a founding board member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel.
