At the July HR Roundtable Sally Pedley, the CEO of Pedley-Richard and Associates; an established Austin-based recruiting firm that focus’ on the technology industry, presented her insights on the Austin labor market and job seeking tips to attendees. Some of the key areas of focus from the discussion were:
Keep your network fresh by making the time while you’re employed to “stay connected” through lunches, joint projects, volunteer activities, etc
Use LinkedIn to build and maintain your professional network
If you are not working for a long period of time, show you are motivated by taking on a project, getting involved in the community, volunteering etc; ensure you can show the results you’ve accomplished
Have a clear and concise “value” proposition for potential employers
The consensus was that there is no single magic bullet but, that that having a thoughtful multi-faceted plan and executing on it greatly increases your chances of gaining employment.
